Winter Squash and Apples: Cut winter squash in half lengthwise and clear cavity of seeds. Butternut or any orange fleshed type are good. Peel. Chop squash flesh into cubes. Steam or microwave until almost tender. Mix squash and apple chunks with 1 tsp cinnamon and ¼ tsp nutmeg, ¼ c. brown sugar, pinch of salt and 2 tbs butter. Bake in cassarole dish until apples are tender.
